Mediapolis@One-North

Mediapolis@One-North personifies Singapore's dream to become the Hollywood of Asia. With names such as Lucasfilm, Linden Lab, Ubisoft, Raintree Pictures, Electronic Arts and Rainbow SpA based here, Singapore is well positioned to produce world class movies, games and all other forms of commercial media from conception to the final finishing touches. Universal Studios setting up shop at Sentosa further supports this island Republic's aspirations at procuring a share in the lucrative Mass Media Industry.

As this project enjoys the full support of the Government, a 19 hectare site has been set aside to launch Singapore's entry into the creative world of modern commercial imagery. From its humble beginnings in the days of Cathay Kris Studios, Singapore's locally produced movies have seen the transition from black and white media and hand-painted frames to state-of-the-art cinematography complete with 3-dimensional special effects and cutting-edge animation techniques.

One-Stop Media City

Mediapolis@One-North is envisaged to be a self-sufficient media city that shall house a full spectrum of multimedia studios, R&D laboratories and support services with broadcasting and training facilities in all disciplines of communicative media. This would make Singapore an attractive prospect that would woo the big names in the industry to come to Singapore and produce multi-million dollar projects and perhaps, even set up a second base of operations in this cradle of the world's fastest growing economies.

The first 1.2 hectare phase of this project commences in the first quarter of 2009. Recession or no recession, this initial phase is but one of many more to come in the years ahead. Provision has been made that should the success of this venture exceed expectations, more land will be added to increase its 19 hectare allocation.

Reasons for Governmental Support

Singapore's economy is service and export driven, and the people are her most vital resource. As there is obviously no shortage of talent here, it makes good sense to invest in industries that are dependent on manpower, innovativeness and skills. The Mass Media Industry provides excellent opportunities for such talent.

The Governments aims, amongst other things, to establish Singapore as the Info-Tech Hub of South East Asia. As a lot of resources have been expended to provide the necessary infrastructure to support Information Technology businesses, this very same infrastructure would be in direct support of the Mass Media Industry. These 2 industries are seen as naturally symbiotic.

Last but not least, the establishment of Mediapolis@One-North draws attention to the other world class services that Singapore provides.
