Nick Manning to be evicted
Nick manning, adult performer and part owner of “L A Exotique” is facing eviction from his new lingerie store, despite the fact that the rent is fully paid up. The shop — which is owned by Manning, Michelle McLaren, Rachel Roxxx, Sarah Jesse, Mikey Butders, Justin Syder and Dean Sussman, Manning’s longtime adult distribution partner — opened just three weeks ago in Encino. Manning told XBIZ that he is being sued for eviction by his landlord, Ventura-Louise Partners, and has 20 days left of the given 45 until his store is closed up. He did not specify further on what grounds he is being evicted.
It’s hard to believe the landlords are evicting the adult performer because of what he does for a living, but according to Manning, “Their issue is because I’m an adult star,” Manning said. “We have diligently adhered to the guidelines provided to us by the zoning board. Now the landlord wants to evict us and keep the $90,000 advance rent merely because the store is owned by adult stars.”
Our experience of landlords is they are driven first by financial considerations and we wonder if there is something here we are missing. A higher rent offer perhaps?
“Dean Sussman has put in a remarkable effort to open LA Exotique,” explained Manning. “He carefully met with the zoning executives and it was determined that we were a lingerie store and not even classified as an adult bookstore. We have diligently adhered to the guidelines provided to us by the zoning board.”
Manning’s lease allows him the opportunity to sublease the unused portion of LA Exotique. Adding insult to injury, Ventura-Louise LLC has rejected every potential tenant Nick Manning has submitted.
According to Manning, business has been excellent, but the harassment is wearing on his nerves. “It’s obvious that they are just making life difficult because I’m an adult film star. I vow to fight this censorship, keep my store open, and adhere to the business plan that we shared with everyone involved prior to opening our store.”
On Thursday, Manning will appear on The Howard Stern Show on Sirius Radio to discuss the situation, in support of the shop. We look forward to it.
