NZ Property Websites: PropertyTalk
Propertytalk used to have the obscure url propertytalk.co.nz but has since gone international as propertytalk.com and expanded its property investment forum to cover the countries to which the Kiwi diaspora migrates to: notably Australia, UK, Asia and North America.

To be fair probably 90% of the site relate to New Zealand: so if you are looking for a place to discuss your potential or actual New Zealand property investments this is the place to head to. Other local New Zealand boards are sponsored by real-world property investment magazines hence the propertytalk byline of “free and independent”.
Although the site has been through several variations currently it is predominantly a forum supported by a daily newsletter and a wiki about New Zealand property investment.
As one of the owner’s puts it:
“The value of PropertyTalk.com is that it is the first on line resource centre to bridge-the-gap between regions around the world for property investors. Where the latest daily property news, market driven articles, views and opinions inform and educate investors 24 x 7 for free. - Donna Richardson - PropertyTalk.com
It does this very well: as you can imagine with a population of only 4 million people New Zealand’s property investment community is small: though probably one of the highest percentages of the population in the world. New Zealand’s favourable tax regime with no capital gains tax favours property investment. In addition New Zealand’s stock market is notoriously volatile with a generation of Kiwis loosing their life savings in the 1988 crash.
The forums are split along country lines: NZ, Australia, Asia, USA, UK and Europe. The New Zealand forum subsequently splits into sub forums concentrating on General Property Investment, Finance, Improvements, Tenants etc. The forum has been active for at least the last 5 years and currently has:
- Threads: 16,405,
- Members: 6,701 - not all active
Their email follow up is excellent. If you don’t post or visit for a months, you get an email reminder and update of the currently hot topics. You can also subscribe for free for a weekly roundup of news in your chosen markets (Australia, New Zealand etc) which is handy for keeping in contract without having to trawl through the local sites.
If you are considering property investment in New Zealand than this is the the site for you: if you want the equivalent for Australia check out this property investment forum.
