<p class="hdg3">April house prices up 0.2 per cent since March: average house price in England and Wales now £165,596</p>
<p>The April data from Land Registry's flagship House Price Index shows an annual price increase of 8.5 per cent. This is the sixth month in a row in which the figure has been positive and takes the average property value in England and Wales to £165,596. The monthly change from March to April is a rise of 0.2 per cent.</span></p>

It is becoming increasingly obvious that the newspapers are attempting to "talk the market up," in an effort to re-inflate the property bubble that allowed their advertisers to keep paying their bills. But - reading between the lines and comparing the actual news stories with the spin tells a very different story.</p>
