The Most Expensive Cities in the World
Moscow is now officially the World’s most expensive city. Following a cost-of-living survey done by Mercer, Human Resource Consulting, Moscow topped the list of fifty most expensive cities, closely followed by London. New York city only managed a lowly tenth, largely due to the dollar value.
So here are the five most expensive in descending order.
1. Moscow, Russia

Moscow has come a long way since its Communist days. Oligarchs snap up exclusive apartments inside the Garden Ring. Now they're splashing out in Kensington and Chelsea in London, helping fuel London’s price rises.
2. London, England

No great shock there. The only surprising thing is that London only managed to scrape second place. In a city where a parking space can sell for as much as $400,000 and office space is the most expensive in the World, it’s only a matter of time before London forces her way back to the top of the list.
3. Seoul, South Korea

Seoul edged Tokyo out by a slim margin and is now 22% more expensive than New York.
4. Tokyo

It’s not so much that Tokyo has got cheaper – it hasn’t, but London and Moscow have upped the ante.
5. Hong Kong

Three of the top five cities are in Asia. Surprisingly, the communist takeover has made little impact on the cost of living in Hong Kong. So, where are the cheapest?
- Asuncion, Paraguay
- Karachi, Pakistan
- Quito, Ecuador
- Montevideo, Uruguay
- Buenos Aires, Argentina
