The World’s Most Unusual Properties For Sale

This is a collection of weird and unusual properties currently for sale around the world. If you like what you see here, please “Digg” or “Stumble” or post to your favorite social bookmark site. Thanks.

Dracula’s castle, Transylvania is on the market for around $80 million. Seems like a bargain to us, as long as there are no incumbent tenants. It certainly qualifies as one of the world’s most unusual properties for sale. This one has been bouncing around for what seems like an eternity. As a property investment, we suspect it would take a special kind of investor to get involved. Still if you can own it for all eternity………

Vatu Vara island is claimed to be the most expensive freehold island in the world. If you have to ask, you can’t afford it. It is often nicknamed Hat Island because of its unusual shape — the top of its peak is flat because it was once at sea level. It is part of the Lau group of islands and its peak dominates the surrounding skyline. It is said to be one of the last four freehold islands to come on to the market in Fiji.

Four lighthouses put up for auction in Virginia in January fail to sell.

The Middleground lighthouse off Newport News was the most popular, with a high bid of $6,000 and a total of two bids in the online auction. A single bidder has bid $5,000 apiece for the Thimble Shoal lighthouse at the entrance to Chesapeake Bay, Smith Point lighthouse at the Potomac River’s mouth, and Wolf Trap lighthouse between the Rappahannock and York rivers. The government wants to transfer ownership to avoid maintainence costs. The lighthouses were first offered for free to agencies or nonprofits that would maintain them for public use, but no applicants were accepted. Buyers will not have to meet the same requirements.

The Coast Guard at some point will probably take bidders out to see what the lighthouses are like inside, said Lt. Cmdr. Richard Condit, lighthouse coordinator for the Coast Guard in Hampton Roads.
“We need to make sure people are in good-enough shape and healthy enough to make it onto lights safely,” he said. “If it’s flat calm, it’s simply a matter of climbing a vertical ladder. If it’s not flat calm, it’s a more difficult matter.” Looking at a photograph of Wolf Trap, Condit pointed out a small object sitting on the balcony that encircles the lighthouse. “That’s actually the bathroom,” he said. “It’s an outhouse. It looks like a phone booth with no door and a bench. You would use that, and you can tell where it would go.” The Middleground lighthouse, he said, has a slight tilt from being hit by a tugboat in 1979. Each of the four lighthouses has several floors inside, plus a basement. Do I hear ten grand, the lot? Any takers?

Straw Bale House for sale, price $195,000 Which is apparently less than the house cost to build in 2005. Solar Haven is completely independent of public utilities (except for telephone and Internet service provider). With the use of the Thermomax solar hot-water system and passive solar heating, there is no need for propane. This apparently saves a lot of money in the Winter months. The house is nearly finished and the structure is made completely from straw bales.

The Water Tower, Montrose, Dundee, Scotland.

B listed converted water tower Price £190,000

Just 20 minutes from Roswell, New Mexico on US highway 380. This site sits on approximately 8.26 acres. Extensive interior and exterior cleanup has been completed with refurbishment finished on entryway, entrapment area, blast vestibules, stairwell and utility tunnel. Upper and lower levels of the launch control center are nearly completed. Yep, you’ve guessed it, complete with blast doors, fully refurbished and good to go, except for the missiles presumably, the 579th Strategic Missile Squadron silo site 4 can be yours as far as I could ascertain for around $200,000. Interested parties can call Gary on (505) 627-3374. Gary is looking for parties who might be prepared to run a joint venture. I kid you not, that’s the number to call. Not only that, but he has several other “interesting” similar properties for sale.

To us “Game Farm” seems an oxymoron, but this one is for sale for $5.2 million. On the edge of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. This is a successful Cape buffalo breeding enterprise with regular annual net income in the region of six to eight million rand. At present there are about 80 cows and 6 bulls. The government has indicated that these projects will be running for another 5 years. It is visualized that ‘developers’ would be able to rely on incomes generated by the buffalo breeding projects whilst developing alternative tourist infrastructure. This farm has a great number of large earth dams which have been professionally landscaped fitting in with the natural environment.

Top of our list. No bedrooms, no bathrooms, sleeps 400 million, perhaps the most pristine, biologically diverse and productive tract of land on the planet earth. Address: The Amazon Rain Forest , Brazil.

At 1.2 million acres, it’s like having your own country. Humanitarian and development potential limited only by your budget and your imagination. What a sales pitch. The price includes, but is not limited to:

  • Timber
  • Minerals – tin, iron, nickel, gold, silver and bauxite
  • Oil, Natural gas: This property is known to contain natural gas and oil
  • Brazil nuts, bananas, cashew nuts, papayas (edible fruits).

Last I saw posted, the island was for sale at $75 million. I love the looks of it, but I was more interested in the huge tract of land in the Amazon. How much is that?!

I think I’ll buy the castle as my evil overlord lair and the Amazon as my training ground.

I shall take over the world!

Right after I find a few billion dollars on the ground.

Buy the amazon rain forest?

5,000,000 acres for $100,000,000?

That is possibly the sickest thing I’ve ever heard.

The amazon rain forest shouldn’t be put up for sale to anyone intending on using it for lumber production.

I think it would be great if the US government added an extra $100million onto the recent $700BILLION bailout, and make an honest effort to save a piece of the amazon.

Mark Knowles @ 12:18 pm #

No argument here – If I had $100 million – I would buy it myself and just leave it be….
